What We Expect From All Our Tour Leaders
At NOMAD, we recognise that the success of every programme relies on the people who lead it. Our Tour Leaders are not merely supervisors; they are mentors, guides, and role models who ensure that every participant has a safe, positive, and enriching experience throughout their journey. We devote considerable time and attention to selecting, training, and continually supporting our teams, because we believe that trust starts with preparation.
The Role of Our Tour Leaders
Tour Leaders are responsible for fostering a structured, welcoming, and respectful environment for all participants. Their role encompasses both practical and educational elements of the programme.
• Overseeing activities, excursions, and travel arrangements
• Organising wake-up times, meals, and transitions between locations
• Promoting teamwork, inclusion, and positive group interactions
• Listening carefully, recognising concerns early, and responding promptly when necessary
They operate under the guidance of the Program Director, ensuring that every aspect of the trip adheres to NOMAD’s operating standards, safety procedures, and educational principles.
While our Tour Leaders offer close supervision and guidance throughout the programme, participants are expected to show maturity, responsibility, and respect for group rules.
NOMAD maintains a policy of reasonable supervision at all times, in line with international best practices for youth travel.
Qualified, Passionate & Responsible Professionals
All Tour Leaders are meticulously chosen for their experience, dependability, and leadership qualities.
Each has a background in youth work, education, or travel management and is selected for their ability to balance discipline, empathy, and enthusiasm.
All our Tour Leaders:
• Have previous experience supervising or mentoring teenagers
• Demonstrate maturity, integrity, and strong interpersonal skills
• Must be at least 25 years old
• Hold valid first aid and emergency response awareness training
• Share NOMAD’s enthusiasm for global learning and cultural understanding
Besides their main responsibilities, each Tour Leader may take on additional roles such as Health & Safety Officer, Photography & Media Coordinator, or Welfare Point of Contact, ensuring comprehensive management of every trip.
A Rigorous Selection & Vetting Process
Every member of our team undergoes a multi-stage recruitment and screening process, which includes:
• In-depth personal interviews
• Verification of professional references and identity
• Review of background and travel experience
• Assessment of communication, decision-making, and crisis-handling skills
Only candidates who meet NOMAD’s high ethical and professional standards are authorised to lead our groups.
NOMAD reserves the right to withdraw or replace any staff member who does not fully comply with our operational policies or Code of Conduct.
Comprehensive Pre-Departure Training
Before each travel season, all staff must complete a compulsory in-person training programme organised and led by NOMAD’s Education & Safety team.
• 1 week for Program Directors
• 3 days for Tour Leaders
The training includes:
• Safety and emergency management protocols
• Scenario-based exercises and simulations
• Workshops on inclusion, communication, and conflict prevention
• A complete review of NOMAD’s Code of Conduct, Risk Management Policy, and Participant Care Charter
This ensures that every team member is fully prepared to manage both routine tasks and extraordinary situations with professionalism and calm.
Our Duty of Care
NOMAD maintains high safety standards and a continuous duty of care towards all participants.
While we cannot guarantee a completely incident-free experience, we uphold proactive risk assessment processes, clear communication channels, and structured supervision tailored to each age group and activity.
All programmes comply with local and international safety regulations, and every Tour Leader is trained to respond promptly and effectively if any situation arises.
Parents can be assured that their teenager will travel within a framework that balances freedom and responsibility, exploration and safety.
At NOMAD, we uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and care. Our teams lead with empathy, inspire confidence, and uphold our core values: respect, integrity, curiosity, and excellence. Because every journey is more than simply a trip, it’s a moment of growth, guided by people who truly care.
